A special visit
When children are leaving Walnut Park, the teachers invite them to come back and visit. Â The kids love seeing first graders visit since they know them well. Â Bren has talked about visiting since September and finally in December, schedules aligned.
It made more sense for him to miss the whole day of school and come with me to my school in the morning. Â That meant he got to see his friend from Walnut Park. Â He was greeted with a big hug and an invitation to see the work he was doing. Â There were big smiles all around!
Then we went to Walnut Park. Â He settled right in for lunch, helped with show and tell, did some work with a younger students and positively beamed the whole time. Â His old teachers sent pictures with comments about his maturity and how much his work had improved. Â He talked about it being the best day ever!
Report Cards
The kids got their report cards just before the holidays- they did great…but not without drama.
Aidan got his report card on a Thursday. Â He was devastated. Â On the four point scale, 4 being the highest, Aidan got one 2. Â He has never received a 2. Â He was in tears. Â Worse yet- it was in organization!
He decided to talk to the teacher to ask how he could improve for the next term. Â As soon as he asked to talk to her, she noticed the mistake on his report card. Â It should have been a 4. Â He felt so much better.
Comments on both kids report cards read like the goals of a Montessori classroom- they are independent learners, who ask and answer questions and work well with their friends. Â Couldn’t ask for anything more!
