Swim Team

IMG_5763The Swim Team 2013-2014 season officially ended this weekend with the Boston Centers for Youth and Families Swim Meet at Harvard.  All the teams were there- hundreds of people.  It was intense!

Aidan had a rough start loosing his goggles as he dove in for his first race.  The kids had arrived just as he meet was starting and hadn’t had time to warm up.  He was upset but shook it off and did great in his other races.

Bren got very nervous and upset before his first race.  There were so many people!  His first race was just after much bigger kids raced and he got very overwhelmed.  But he pulled himself together for his other races.

It has been so awesome this season having the kids on the same team.  It’s one of the few activities they share and now share lots of friends.  They loved going in the van to meets.  They loved practices with their friend (perhaps loving the free time more).  They had great coaches who made it fun.  They loved after meets when we would go out to dinner with other families.

It was a long season, but they loved every minute of it!

A different kind of St. Patrick’s Day

With the exception of the year is rained so badly there was no way we could stand outside- the boys haven’t missed a St. Patrick’s Day parade.  Until this year.

They think this year it was just too cold, and it was.  But there were other reasons.  It has changed too much and taken a turn that just doesn’t feel like the family event I grew up with.  There is the politics- who can and cannot march, who is “right” and who is “wrong.”  There is also a younger population who come- and with them lots of drinking (and not enough clothing).  It’s just not the same.  It’s just not what I want a nine and six year old to see.

The boys dressed in their sweaters for Church and then we came home and had a fun day watching movies and “chillaxin.”  It was a fun day.  We will see what we decide next year.
