Ice Skating

Brendan is a fan of all things princess so it was no surprise that he would want to see Disney on Ice when it came school vacation week. Coincidentally he had a friends birthday party at an ice rink the same day. He skated once at the frog pond last year. It was not a big hit. But a year older and the same day as Disney on Ice made him excited to go.

Two things I really admired that day. He did not want to skate and was upset about not wanting to do it. But he managed to push past being nervous and try it. And he liked it. And was in fact the last kid off the ice. Similarly when we were in India he tried things like animal rides and henna. He embraces opportunities and knows he doesn’t want to miss something and regret it.

Second at Disney on Ice he was allowed to choose one toy as a souvenir. The guy selling stuff was pushing boy toys but Brendan politely told him he was looking for something else- a doll or Cinderella slippers. He knows who he is and is not afraid to let people know without being intimidated. I hope he never looses his confidence in himself.

President’s Day

We haven’t taken advantage of living across the water from a presidential library, which is surprising given Aidan’s interest in presidents. We decided to change that on Presidents’ Day. The JFK Library hosted a kids festival and wouldn’t you know it- Abe Lincoln would be there! Both boys enjoyed seen Abe Lincoln and Ulysses Grant come to life. They loved the craft projects too. We didn’t have much time to explore beyond the festival but they were both interest in going back, and we certainly will be!

Snow!

It has actually snowed this year- a blizzard even! I love the seasons in New England and I love that the kids have a chance to enjoy them as well. Chris has been snowboarding for of a decade and now both kids seem to be taking to it too. Last year was not arrest winter and the lessons the kids took were less than exciting. This year they have had four snowboarding trips already. Brendan is already on level 2 and Aidan moved up to level 3.

The last trip the boys took they went for just a boys day so I could get some work done. I’m sure there will be more like that and it will be fun for them they are getting older and boy time will be important. It is so much fun to see them interested in new things!
