Brendan is a fan of all things princess so it was no surprise that he would want to see Disney on Ice when it came school vacation week. Coincidentally he had a friends birthday party at an ice rink the same day. He skated once at the frog pond last year. It was not a big hit. But a year older and the same day as Disney on Ice made him excited to go.
Two things I really admired that day. He did not want to skate and was upset about not wanting to do it. But he managed to push past being nervous and try it. And he liked it. And was in fact the last kid off the ice. Similarly when we were in India he tried things like animal rides and henna. He embraces opportunities and knows he doesn’t want to miss something and regret it.
Second at Disney on Ice he was allowed to choose one toy as a souvenir. The guy selling stuff was pushing boy toys but Brendan politely told him he was looking for something else- a doll or Cinderella slippers. He knows who he is and is not afraid to let people know without being intimidated. I hope he never looses his confidence in himself.
