Aidan’s Project

Aidan’s teacher took a medical leave and did not return after April vacation. He had a great teacher until June 1st but she needed to return to her responsibilities within the school. So Brendan’s teacher who had been covering the maternity leave for for his original teacher (following this?) stepped into Aidan’s class.

All this is to sayIMG_3938 that coming into a new class in June is not easy. So Ms. B. assigned a project to learn more about the students. It was a project about their family heritage. And it involved not only learning more about a particular part of your heritage but also food! Aidan has been helping out by making meatballs the last few times I have made a sauce, so it was a great opportunity for him to show off his skills.

He took the opportunity to learn more about the Italian side of the family by making a video and interview both me and my aunt. Here is his project;

Rick Riodan

Rick Riodan seems to write nonstop. Which is a good thing since Aidan loves his books.

IMG_2896He also happens to be local so when a new book does come out his one and only appearance is for the hometown crowd.

Is like seeing a rockstar. Not only are tickets needed (and sell out) but you have to arrive early to get seats together- this time at the John Hancock Hall (so weird to be there since so many of my dance recitals were there!!).

Aidan and Trinity were there again. And very excited about the new book!!

The 5th Grade Play

There is a tradition at the Condon School. The fifth grade, previous the oldest kids in the school until this year, performed a spring musical the week before April vacation. The plays rotate so the kids know what their show will be. For Aidan’s class it was the Wizard of Oz.  The kids practiced during lunch for the weeks leading up to the show and performed 4 times including an evening performance for families.

Brendan of course was all over this. Aidan was not interested in participating in any way that involved him being on stage (much to Brendan’s displeasure!!). It became a point of contention and we had an “agree to disagree” policy at many meals.

IMG_2645 Until the week of the show when Aidan became involved- by working the spotlight. A job he took very seriously. There were certain colors for certain songs and he knew all his cues. Brendan was quite proud of Aidan’s involvement.

But there was something else about this performance. So many kids Aidan has become friends with over the past 5 years were in the show- and his best friend who is not in the school anymore came too.  They seem so old.  When did that happen? This time next year many of them will be getting ready to move on to a new and bigger school. I, for one, hope together. They are a great group of kids and he is so luck to have such great friends!IMG_2642
