London- our next adventure

The boys loved our trip to India.  They simply fell in love with traveling.  It doesn’t help that we have a world map hanging in the bathroom, there are plenty of opportunities to look at all the places we could discover.

Chris and I talked about travel and something we felt was important to do with the boys.  It is a big world but increasingly smaller.  One of the 21st century skills often talked about is global learning.  How better than going places and seeing how other cultures live.  We certainly saw a lot in India and it piqued their curiosity.

So that led to making a plan.  Each year after school ends we will try to take “big trip.”  We will choose a place to visit, learn a little bit about it and then go and discover.  After much conversation- still ongoing some days- we decided our 2014 trip will be to London.

I have started a Pinterest board to collect ideas for places to go and things to see.  It is 10 months away but it is exciting to start planning!

The Sweet Spot

I posted this article a few weeks ago on Facebook.  It is so true and we so have hit that “sweet spot.”  As I write this Aidan has a friend visiting and they are playing with Legos in his room.  Bren is visiting upstairs, no doubt sharing stories about his day at camp.  I feel like we have time to breath and enjoy our two little young men.

I spent some time with an old friend this week and her two young daughters.  They are 2 and 4 months.  Really little.  I almost forgot what it was like to have the stroller, the snacks, the diapers, the wipes, the energy to chase after a toddler and talk over a sad baby.

Instead last weekend while Aidan was out with a friend, we went to the park with Brendan where he rode his bike and flew a kite.  The other day  while it was rainy, Aidan and I had a nice lunch together and then a trip to Barnes and Noble (new Magic Tree House book!!).

I love that we can just jump in the car and go somewhere, that the kids can enjoy each other.  Its sad how quickly time passes, and some days I do miss them as little boys- but I am loving these ages and all the fun we have.  I am also loving living their experiences with them and seeing how excited they get about all the new things they are now big enough to see and do.
