Happy 12th Birthday, Aidan!

Aidan is 12 today. Twelve means a few things- a cell phone and riding in the front seat of the car. One year away from being a teenager, four years from getting his learners permit. I can’t believe he is 12- where have the years gone? Aidan has become a compassionate, funny, caring young man. I love talking to him and watching him figure things out. I love how excited he gets about silly puns and how much he concentrates trying to teach himself something on the piano. He becoming a great young man and someone I genuinely love spending time with. As he’s getting older, I’ve had to ask more what is ok to post on social media and share with others. I get a lot of “seriously Mom.” But every once in a while he lets me share how proud I am of him. Like on his birthday.

Family Time

img_4973Last week Aidan asked if he could plan a family night for the four of us. Originally he asked about a bowling night but then remembered he enjoyed mini golf with a friend and wanted us all to go.

We had so much fun! It was glow in the dark mini golf and had a great DJ. The monster theme was great with Halloween coming. By the second hole we stopped keeping score! The kids had fun too and asked if we could do it again- disco bowing next!

I’m not sure how long they will want to hang out with us and plan fun family nights, or at what point it will be more than four of us as they get older, but for now if they want to hang out with us- we are there!

(PS It’s not easy to take pictures when there are black lights!)

Aidan’s Minecraft Class

Last spring while Aidan was at a 4th Church class, Katie asked him what classes he would like to see in the new school year. He shared all the computer classes he has enjoyed and especially was looking forward to over the summer- namely- Minecraft. Katie asked if he would consider teaching a class and Aidan enthusiastically jumped at the opportunity.

img_4605Aidan will be teaching a 10 week Minecraft class. He has planned an syllabus and has themes and goals each week.  He worked with Chris to set up the computers and talked through what he wants to do and how he wants the class to culminate.

After the first week he realized the one thing he hadn’t thought about- managing a class of excited students! But that’s what having an adult there is for! And he is getting the hang of it (and has a new respect for his own teachers).

It’s a pretty great experience for him and a way for him to earn some spending money- so proud of him!
