Camp Nana and Papa

It was back to work this week for me after two weeks off and the week both boys had been looking forward to for weeks- Camp Nana and Papa.

They went upstairs the first day with lists of things they wanted to do and places they wanted to go- the park, JFK Library, Castle Island, wand making…the lists changed every time they I asked.  I came home to two happy boys every day. IMG_4726

The Sweet Spot

I posted this article a few weeks ago on Facebook.  It is so true and we so have hit that “sweet spot.”  As I write this Aidan has a friend visiting and they are playing with Legos in his room.  Bren is visiting upstairs, no doubt sharing stories about his day at camp.  I feel like we have time to breath and enjoy our two little young men.

I spent some time with an old friend this week and her two young daughters.  They are 2 and 4 months.  Really little.  I almost forgot what it was like to have the stroller, the snacks, the diapers, the wipes, the energy to chase after a toddler and talk over a sad baby.

Instead last weekend while Aidan was out with a friend, we went to the park with Brendan where he rode his bike and flew a kite.  The other day  while it was rainy, Aidan and I had a nice lunch together and then a trip to Barnes and Noble (new Magic Tree House book!!).

I love that we can just jump in the car and go somewhere, that the kids can enjoy each other.  Its sad how quickly time passes, and some days I do miss them as little boys- but I am loving these ages and all the fun we have.  I am also loving living their experiences with them and seeing how excited they get about all the new things they are now big enough to see and do.

Summer at the Yacht Club

It so weird seeing Aidan at the Sailing Program, doing the same things Chris and I did as kids and then Chris oversaw as an instructor.  He is having a good time.  There have been many tipped boats, but he is comfortable by himself. I think he likes the math in it all- the angle of the sail, the direction of the wind- its what he is interested in learning.  I think he could do with out some of the kids who have no interest in sailing and only in causing trouble- but those kids existed when we were there.

One night recently he participated in the Wednesday night races.  He did great!  It did end with him tipping though- he says his boat got swamped.  There was also a dance- it had an 80’s theme.  Oh how I remember those.

He’s got a nice tan now and he is looking forward to the annual tradition that ends the summer- the shaving cream fight!

Me and Chris one summer at sailing- I think he was an instructor (maybe 1996/1997) and us there to watch Aidan race this summer.
