This fall when Aidan began participating in the 4th Church drama program, Brendan was immediately jealous. This grew as he watched the two performances and Newsies and then Godspell that followed. He loved singing along with Aidan. He loves to act. And costumes, well, there is plenty of documentation of his feelings about dressing up and playing characters. So when the possibility of him participating in the spring play, Beauty and the Beast, even though he is just shy of 5 years old came up- he jumped at the chance.
We are three weeks into drama and Brendan is loving every.single.minute of practice. He has memorized the movie, the songs and the names of the children who are playing each role. He even has notes for the poor sixth grade girl playing Belle. He sat with the third graders crossing their fingers that they would be picked for the lead parts. He somehow missed that an almost 5 year old who has never been in a play probably won’t be chosen for a lead.
It is such a joy to watch your child so in their element and loving what they are doing. We see it so often with Aidan as he figures out math and science. The new light in Brendan’s eyes is so bright and his enthusiasm is infectious.
I can’t wait until opening night.
Until then, here is what my house is like all the time now- Brendan as Belle
