O’Brien Family Christmas Card 2016
The idea of a fun Christmas card started in 2012 and every year we have spent a considerable amount of time thinking of how to top the previous year (see past cards linked below).  Our planning starts in the summer and becomes part of regular dinner conversations, though it sometimes feels like the discussions are year round.  There were a few options that came up this year- the ones not chosen I won’t share, they get added to next year’s list! Since the last two years were movie themes, this year we wanted something different.
I first came across the general idea of using big two foot tall heads not long after the Orlando Nightclub Massacre. I liked coupling the big heads with the idea of “Love Big, Live Big.†2016 has been a difficult year – from Syria to natural disasters to gun violence and everything in between, we could certainly use more love in the world.
We took the pictures for the big heads in October and ordered them. They were, ironically, delivered on Election Day.
The campaign was hard.
Election Night was hard.
And right now looking to the future seems hard.
But we need to remember to spend more time loving and living. And when we have the opportunity, we need to celebrate- celebrate holidays, friendships, family, life, love.
Two favorite quotes from 2016 also inspired this card – “Love is love is love is love†and “Live in the light†– messages very important in 2016 and as we look to the future.
We share this card with friends and family to let them know we love them, are thinking of them and wish them the best during the holiday season. We hope 2017 brings happiness and peace.
