June 26

June 26th has been circled on the calendar for months.  There has been a countdown on my phone.  After months of planning and a year leading up to it- that was the day we were to leave for this summer’s family vacation.  It ended up being an important date for other reasons too.

With the swim team party the night before, we were behind in our packing. Chris left the party early to do laundry and I let the kids stay far longer than I expected. I decided to leave the packing until the next morning. I figured I could squeeze it in before and after my 10am haircut. Seemed logical to book that the day we were leaving, right?

IMG_9315Chris brought the kids to school. After 8 snow days this was their second to last day and a half day. They missed their last day (we were on the beach!). The plan was to pick them up at noon, drop off their school bags and then head to the cruise terminal.

Chris and I knew the last week in June would mean Supreme Court decisions. We (and the rest of the country) were waiting on the marriage equality ruling. When I woke up and looked at my “today in history” on Facebook, I realized it was the anniversary of the Prop 8 override. Perfect day to make history again. And if there would be a ruling, it would be at 10am. My haircut time.

So of course that is what happened.  #lovewins

All I wanted to do was watch the news, retweet on Twitter and see who was changing their Facebook pics (the rainbow overlay happened hours later when we lost wifi connections on the cruise). Packing happened too (in between).

Then another call, from Boston Children’s Theatre. When we came home, Bren would be auditioning for Studio 4’s play Assassins.  He was going to be thrilled.

We made it to the cruise terminal- more surprises (and more on that later).

What a day!
